When Raghav first arrived at Raksha Make a Difference, he could barely stand. His small frame trembled with weakness, his once-soft coat was matted and dull, and most heartbreaking of all, his hind leg was horrifically fractured. The bone was protruding from the wound, raw and exposed. It was an old injury, long untreated, and now badly infected. Raghav was in unbearable pain and had also lost a considerable amount of blood, leaving him dangerously weak.
After several days of supportive care and close observation, it became evident that Raghav's leg could not be saved without surgical intervention. Raksha, one of our trusted partner rescue organizations, reached out to us at A Compassionate World. In response, we provided a grant to cover the costs of Raghav’s surgery and post-operative care — made possible thanks to the generosity of our community. Raghav was transported to a veterinary hospital in Lucknow, where a team of skilled surgeons took on his challenging case. The injury was old, and the tissue around the exposed bone had already begun to deteriorate, making the procedure especially complex. But thanks to expert care and timely intervention, Raghav got a fighting chance at recovery!
Raghav came out of surgery with his leg intact, but the journey was far from over. He had a long recovery ahead. Once back at his shelter, he was kept under close observation and received regular dressing changes, pain relief, and other medications. He still struggled with fatigue, and it was clear that the blood loss and infection had taken a heavy toll on his young body. But slowly, step by step, Raghav began to heal.
The second image of Raghav, taken weeks later, shows a completely different calf. Though still somewhat fragile and thin, he stands with more confidence. His coat, once dull and dirty, has begun to grow back with a healthy sheen. His eyes, once clouded with pain, now gleam with curiosity as he explores the open yard, sniffing the ground and nibbling on his food with a little more enthusiasm each day.
Raghav’s story is just one of many, but it’s a powerful reminder of why organizations like Raksha and ACW exist. Rescues like his aren’t easy; they take time, persistence, funding, and a whole lot of heart. However, watching Raghav transform from barely standing, to exploring the world with determination, is a testament to why these efforts are worth it. Raghav got his second chance – while still on the road to full recovery, he’s walking it with hope in his step and love all around him.
